Recent iDidTht Judges

Graeme Jenner
Executive Creative Director at King James II

Graeme Jenner started his advertising career at Net#work BBDO in 1997 when he still had long flowing locks. In his first year in advertising he came 3rd in the Cannes Young Creative International competition. Upon going on stage to collect his bronze he was given a kiss by the old french chap who then realised his mistake and said ‘Oh, I thought you were a girl’. Into the microphone. On the stage. In the auditorium. In Cannes. It wasn’t great. Graeme managed to navigate that particular speed bump early on in his career and went on to make many memorable campaigns for clients like Metro FM, Opel Corsa Lite, Cell C and Chicken Licken. Along the way he collected some awards, including a couple of Loerie Grand Prix’s, an Ad Of The Year, a Gold Eagle, and a few nods from One Show, Clios and Cannes. In 2009 he served on the Print Jury at the Cannes Lions Awards and in 2011 was nominated as part of the South African Creative Circle. In 2013, together with longtime compadre Rob McLennan, he started King James II, an independent Johannesburg-based agency that has since acquired a nice bunch of clients and awards. He is now bald and has pushed out as much facial hair as he could muster. Which is probably for the best.

Suhana Gordhan
Creative Director at FCB Johannesburg

Suhana Gordhan is a Creative Director at FCB Johannesburg. She entered the advertising industry in 2001 and has worked on some of the country’s much loved brands at agencies like Ogilvy, Black River FC and Net#work BBDO. Gordhan is passionate about the art of copywriting and loves parenting an idea well enough so that nobody corrupts it along its journey from birth to maturity. She enjoys building client relationships and is proud of South African creativity. Gordhan is a Hindu, who learned very quickly that there are no sacred cows in advertising. One of her favourite moments in advertising was pissing off a dictator, and winning a Loerie Grand Prix for it. Some of her other accolades include a Black Eagle, Gold Pendoring, Creative Circle Ad of the Year, a Silver Pixel at The Bookmarks and a Cannes Silver Lion. Gordhan has just been announced as the new Chairperson of The Loeries. She also writes an opinion column about advertising and marketing for Business Day, a South African national daily newspaper.

Jenny Glover began her career in 1996. During her career as a copywriter, she won metal at international awards over 45 times. Highlights included Cannes Grand Prix, a total of 26 Cannes Lions, 9 of which were gold, four D&AD Yellow Pencils as well as a tidy stash of local awards. She now peddles her particular brand of darkness as an Executive Creative Director at TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris where her focus is on helping creatives to grow and create work that they love. Her finest achievements are daughters, Grace (4) and Ivy (2), who help her maintain her incredibly chic under-eye rings.

Molefi Thulo
Creative Director at Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg

Molefi Thulo, aka Mo, began his career at DraftFCB in the early 2000’s. It was here where he developed a love for storytelling and incorporating humour into his work. In 2009 he joined Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg where he worked his way up to Creative Director. He’s had the privilege of working on a number of impressive accounts such as KFC, Lucozade, Samsung, Coca-Cola, Toyota, Unilever and South African Breweries, to mention a few. His work has been awarded both locally and internationally, and he’s proud to be part of the team that won 2 Cannes Grand Prix Lions, in 2014 and 2016.

Best in Film Craft: June 2017

Brendan Hoffmann awards iDidTht’s best in film craft for June. The Hoff is an industry leader in raising kids and being an all round kind and gentle family man… Oh and he happens to also be a multi-award winning creative badass! An honour to have you Hoffers.

Best in Film Craft: May 2017

Bridget Johnson awards this month’s best in film craft by Production Companies. She doesn’t like to brag, so we’ll do it for her: Bridget is brilliant! She’s been in the game for over 2 decades, scooped up a ridiculous amount of awards and has judged everything from Cannes to that weird hat you once wore. We bow down to her greatness!

Best in Film Craft: April 2017

Tim Beckering, Creative Director at Network BBDO in JHB, awards iDidTht’s Best in Film Craft this month. Tim is a total speed freak, like a local version of The Fast and the Furious, except Tim knows when to stop. Which is why he only chose one Best of Reel and one Special Mention campaign this month #MicDrop #Boom

Best in Film Craft: March 2017

Multi-award winning Steph van Niekerk awards this month’s best in film craft by Production Companies. She’s a small person so you may not always see her entering a room, but don’t mess with her because she’ll throw SA’s first (and only) TV and Cinema Gold One Show statue at you.

Best in Film Craft: February 2017

Mike Barnwell, Executive Creative Director at FCB Cape Town, awards the best in film craft by Production Companies this month. Mike left New Zealand in 2012, sending the country into a downward spiral - it is now the 4th highest user of amphetamines worldwide. Meanwhile, since Mike moved to Cape Town, the city has been named the world’s ‘Best City’. Coincidence? We think not…

Best in Film Craft: January 2017

Liam Wielopolski, Chief Creative Officer at DDB South Africa, awards the best in film craft by Production Companies this month. He was ranked number 3 Chief Creative Officer at the recent Loeries rankings, but more importantly, his Avi on Twitter is an egg, he has 11 followers and his one and only tweet reads: “First tweet, yehaa!’’ - that was back in June 2011… When Liam’s not strategically questioning and undermining the conventions of social media, he’s an industry leader and you need to take note of what he rates as South Africa’s best. We’re honoured to have you Liam…yehaa! 😉
